On the 2nd of March 2022 Westville Boys’ High School first team faced the Northwood first team in the new 100 ball cricket format. The match took place on our home turf, Bowdens field. Northwood, batting first, posted a score of 121 runs at the loss of 8 wickets, using all 100 balls. Westville battled heroically and managed to chase down the total in just 90 balls, scoring 122 runs for the loss of 6 wickets. This win would complete our first team’s perfect season – 5 from 5.
In the first innings Westville struggled to find a wicket, and things only got worse as pace bowler Hamza Mahommed picked up an ankle injury early on. Westville, now missing an integral part of their bowling lineup, had to find a way back into the match. Blake Simpson provided this opportunity, picking up three quick wickets, swinging the game in Westville’s favour.
The Westville opening pair put up a partnership of 65. Wickets began to fall, but we remained undeterred and fought right through to the end. With this 5th win, Westville rounded off this exciting season of 100 ball cricket on a high.
